One of the most exciting things for any bride is the journey to finding her dream wedding dress. You might have dreamed of the moment since you were a little kid pretending to be a princess, or perhaps you haven’t thought of it much until now. Either way, you want to make sure that you get the dress of your dreams from one of the many stunning Scottish bridal boutiques.
START YOUR DRESS SEARCH
Make sure you start looking for your dream dress in plenty of time. We’d recommend 18-9 months before the big day in order to have plenty of time for any unforeseen issues and alterations if needed.
You want to avoid stressful situations, so make sure you plan ahead.
If you have a specific designer in mind, do your research and check which Scottish bridal boutiques stock them so that you can make a shortlist.
If you’re unsure, just phone the shops to see if they have certain designs or styles in stock.
STYLE IT OUT
Pinterest and Instagram are fantastic tools for getting a feel of what styles you like.
Save images of dresses that catch your eye – you’ll probably see a pattern emerging that might steer you in the right direction.
Do you like long sleeves? Perhaps you’re drawn to fishtail skirts? It helps to have some idea of what you might like before you book your first appointments at the boutiques.
However, be prepared to love something totally different when you actually try on the gowns!
Having your bride squad and your mum there when you’re trying on potential wedding dresses is great and a very special day that you’ll remember forever.
DRESS TO IMPRESS
It is important, though, to remind yourself that you are the one wearing the dress. Everyone will have opinions on what looks good, and personal feelings about what they like and dislike.
Of course, you should listen to your loved ones and take their opinions on board, but make sure that your opinion is the loudest of them all!
You have to love your dress and feel comfortable and confident in it. Make sure your judgment isn’t clouded by the (well-meaning) thoughts of your bridal party.
It’s important to keep a budget in mind. You really don’t want to fall in love with a gown to find out it’s three or four times more expensive than you can afford.
Go into the experience with a top-line price in your mind and don’t forget, alterations can cost a bit more than you expect so factor that in too.
SHE’S THE ONE
Think about the style of wedding you’re having when deciding on your wedding dress, too. Is it a religious ceremony (some religious venues advise that you avoid anything too plunging or backless)? Is most of it going to be outdoors? What’s the weather likely to be like on the day?
Asking yourself these questions might help narrow down the search if you find yourself faced with too many beautiful options.
Finally, and most importantly, treasure the experience and have fun. These are precious memories with your bridal party and it’s something you do once in your life. Sip champagne, try on things you might not have chosen, enjoy every minute.
Relax, have fun and be open minded! Your perfect wedding dress could end up being something that you never expected.
