BEFORE THE DAY
It’s become as common to send a save the date as it is to send an invitation.
A save the date is a great way to let your guests know when your wedding is coming up. In today’s busy society, the more notice, the better!
Usually couples send these out around a year before the wedding date but if you’re having a weekend-long, weekday or destination wedding, then you might want to get them out sooner.
Couples can get really creative with save the dates! Lots of people choose to get magnets printed (a great way to ensure your wedding date is in the recipient’s line of sight daily!).
All you need is the location and date of your wedding on these – the rest of the information will be on the invite.
Your wedding invitation may well be the star of the show and are an essential part of your wedding stationery suite.
The important details need to be on these invites so that guests know exactly where and when the event is: the date, location, accommodation options, directions and gift list details should all be present.
You should include a way for guests to RSVP, whether it’s a return card or an email address. If you can include the menu on your invites then make sure that you give people space to include their choices and any dietary requirements you need to know about.
RSVPs should be received back around three or four weeks before the wedding so you can inform your venue and caterers.
It’s advised that you send your wedding invitations around six to four months in advance of the day. Always order a few more than you think you’ll need to account for mistakes or any defaults – and keep one for yourself, of course!
ON THE DAY
Stationery for the day of your wedding can vary depending on what your plans are. You may need an order of service, especially good for church ceremonies as it can include any hymns or readings.
Non-religious weddings aren’t left out – they could include poems or even an intro to the wedding party. Lots of couples make them personal so guests can have them as a keepsake.
A table plan is a good idea to have on display as guests start coming in for dinner. It allows them to see where they are sitting with ease.
You’ll want to mark your guests’ places at the tables, so table numbers and place cards are a must-have. The place cards also help the venue catering and serving staff to see who is sitting where, and co-ordinate that with your guests menu choices. Speaking of menus, some people choose to have those printed to remind guests what they’re having! A budget-friendly way to do this is to only print two or three per table and get guests to share them around.
It’s becoming more popular to have on-the-day signage around the venue pointing guests to various locations.
Perhaps you’d like a welcome sign with your names and a thank you message to guests for coming? Are you having signature cocktails? Print a sign to show guests what the ingredients are!
AFTER THE DAY
You’ll want to thank your guests for being such a special part of your wedding. Order some sweet thank you cards and send them to everyone who sent you gifts, well wishes or attended your day.
Why not write a personal note in each? It’s a lovely touch to show guests how much they’re appreciated.
