Glorious Gosford House in Longniddry was the fairytale setting for Erin and Jamie’s spectacular wedding last summer, a day to remember for their world-wide family and friends who gathered with them to eat, drink, sing and celebrate…
What made you choose Scotland as your wedding destination over your home island of Bermuda?
We chose Scotland because of the romance and magnetic hold the country has on us. It’s a beautiful place with friendly people who really made the experience enchanting.
If I wanted to plan a wedding as beautiful as yours, who would I need to speak to?
We would definitely recommend working with a planner and we used Emma at Timeless White Weddings. Our only challenge was the early start times for our calls as we were 5 hours ahead! However, the peace of mind of always having someone in your corner supporting your vision is 100% worth it, especially the week of the wedding. We were able to pass over the reins completely to Emma who, in partnership with our vendors, executed the entire event to perfection.
We had our wedding at Gosford House, the most beautiful wedding venue made even more beautiful by the team at Gloam. They were both our florist and designer and amazing from start to finish.
Our guests travelled to Gosford House on The Red Bus, the best fun and a great way to start the day. Sedona Park played for Erin’s arrival and during our cocktail hour, Cat and Craig even taking requests and later, The Lockhearts rocked our dance floor for hours.
Our photographer, Caro Weiss, was so delightful and easy to get along with and made us feel so special on the day. She has a generous smile and fantastic energy which shows in her work! Caro was also very communicative and got us our photos back in record time which we really appreciated.
Mo Ackroyd, our Fuze Ceremonies celebrant, worked with us on a few variations of how we wanted our ceremony to read and she really painted the picture of who we were as a couple on the day. Everyone raved it was one of the most intimate ceremonies they had ever been to which couldn’t have happened without her.
Lastly, Olive & Thistle – Gary was our videographer and was hilarious. He wore his special “burger tie” to bring us good luck and wish away any rain on the forecast (it worked!) . We are obsessed with our wedding video he captured the magic and we would recommend him to anyone.
What other fun things did you organise?
We had a bunch of secret surprises in store for our guests during the day. The big ones were the entertainment, our coordinated dance and the fireworks. We were so excited to see all of our loved ones’ reactions to everything. The biggest hit were SOS (Secret Opera Singers) who came out during the dinner service. Our guests laughed and cried at their hilarious and beautiful performance. They are all still are talking about them. Amazing voices!
For the wedding party we wanted to put on a few events ahead of the wedding. We used Roddy at Reel Time Events to host a highland games for our wedding party. Roddy and his team were awesome and the Games were fantastic! We did rounds in 5 different events and our group loved it. Would definitely recommend them for anyone looking to add some extra fun to your wedding week events.
You got married near Edinburgh in August- did you get a chance to take in the Festival?
We stayed in Edinburgh as there is so much amazing activity going on in the city. We were there during the Fringe and the Tattoo was on at Edinburgh Castle and a lot of our guests went to see performances at both which we would highly recommend. We would suggest booking your accommodation early as the rates go up significantly during the Festival.
What are your top tips for couples planning their Scottish wedding?
Use a wedding planner if your an international couple and lean on your suppliers. They are the experts in their field so ask for their ideas.
Remember there will be many ups and downs and that this is a part of the process. Build a team you trust to help get it done and make sure you have support through the hurdles. The end will be worth it, we promise!
