Julie and Daniel live in the south of England but Julie’s heart is very much in Scotland and she was keen to embrace her heritage in their wedding.
You can take the girl out of Scotland but never Scotland out the girl, right Julie?
I am very proud to be Scottish and it’s such a beautiful country, incredibly picturesque. It was always going to be a very Scottish affair.
Where did you book for your big day?
We decided on the Bowfield Hotel and Country Club. Alicia and the staff were brilliant, very friendly and calm especially leading up to the wedding. As we live in England we couldn’t just pop up for a visit but they were more than happy to do team calls with us
Who else was on your team?
Our Humanist Society Scotland humanist, Maureen Kettle. She was super amazing, very accommodating when we could only meet online and really funny and lovely on the day.
We also booked Pictureyou Loch Lomond. We spent most of the day with our photographers, Chris and Suzanne, and by the end of it, they felt like family. They were a real treat to hang out with.
Did you face any challenges during the planning?
It was hard especially during Covid as we couldn’t talk or visit suppliers in person. We ended up ordering a lot of stuff online and did a lot ourselves but yes, it could be difficult at times. Thank God for video calls!
What do you remember most about the day?
It was magical. We laughed and cried most of the day- it was so funny and romantic. Our families still tell us how much fun they had. It was the perfect mix of loads of tears and hugs, dancing and smiling. We will never forget it.
Anywhere else you would recommend visitors to Scotland?
Unfortunately, we only arrived a few days before our wedding but usually, when things aren’t quite so hectic, we would take a drive to Loch Lomond. It’s very pretty.
What are your top tips for other couples?
Prep well.Don’t leave anything to chance. Getting ready takes an hour longer than you think (not for my husband- he was in the sauna an hour beforehand!). Don’t drink too much. Relax and enjoy it!
