Married in Scotland

Kara & Nate, Drumtochty Castle

Their story…

Kara and Nate met in 2016 in Rhode Island through a dating app when Kara was in her last year of nursing school and Nate was an accountant in the city. After moving in together they got their first puppy but one is never enough and six months later, they got another when they moved to Austin, Texas. Their love of fun and laughter (and highly competitive rope pulling!) shines through in their luxury castle wedding…

Why did you choose Scotland for your wedding?

We wanted to go somewhere unique- with lots of lush and beautiful greenery, and of course, castles! Drumtochty ticked every box and then some.

There are so many amazing details in your wedding. How difficult was it to organise, being so far away?

Our vendors were soooo amazing and wonderful. Our planner, Lisa Bauer from Tartan Weddings, facilitated all communications and made all of our dreams come true. She was quick to answer my questions and all of my requests and “no” was not in her lexicon. I absolutely loved getting to know our vendors, meeting them all the day of, and watching my guests interact with them. We had the best team!!

Lisa took complete charge. I was never once worried something would be missed or out of place. She knows how to do her job!

I hear there may have been a costume change…

I was most excited about wearing my gowns (yes, you read that right, GOWNS!) and Nate was most excited about the whole day.. let’s be honest.. he wasn’t super involved in the planning so almost everything was a surprise!

Our favorite memory is the ceremony- Tegan was absolutely amazing. Our guests still talk about the stunning flowers and Nate’s speech!

Other than your wedding, what else did you do whilst you were in Scotland? Any recommendations?

We travelled a LOT of the country- we really loved our day trips through Rabbies. We took two tours with them and they were excellent. We LOVED Stirling and Oban had some of the best seafood (and we’re from Rhode Island so we know seafood!)

Top tips:

Hire a planner. Hire Lisa.

I didn’t have any alcohol prior to the ceremony and I’m so happy I didn’t. I remember every single moment and feeling and detail of the entire day. I’ll cherish those memories forever.
