Their story…
Planning your Scottish wedding from overseas can be daunting especially when you throw a pandemic into the mix. Thankfully, Kirsten and Ross had a dream team of suppliers to keep everything running smoothly.
You’re from Aberdeen, were living in Dubai and chose Dumfries and Galloway for your wedding. What’s the story there?
We loved the idea of getting married near home and wanted to keep it reasonably traditional. We booked GG’s Yard without having seen the venue in person but fell in love with it instantly. They had an amazing virtual tour where we could really get a feel for the whole venue and their in-house wedding co-ordinator, Julie, was amazing from start to finish. She asked us everything in detail prior to our wedding, had a list of recommended suppliers and we didn’t have to think of a single thing on the day. It all flowed smoothly thanks to her!
Julie’s clearly a superstar- what about the rest of the dream team?
Our photographers. Vicki and Greg at Willow & Wilde, were everything and more than we expected. They were both great fun, put us at ease and captured all of the best moments without us even realising they were there some of the time.
We couldn’t have asked for anyone better to tell our story than David Smith, our Humanist Society Scotland celebrant. He was so much fun and kept us laughing and smiling throughout (and before) the ceremony.
Sasha at Sassflower made my bouquet of dreams! All of her arrangements are absolutely stunning and she managed to figure out exactly what style and colours I was looking for, despite my confusing Pinterest board! I was also delighted with my hair and makeup. I am super fussy and it was perfect- highly recommend both Ophelia Bridal and The Aisle.
What were you most looking forward to?
We were most excited to have all of our best friends and family in one place! We’d been together for sevem years so we were ready to officially ‘tie the knot’ and celebrate with those we love the most. Unfortunately we faced Covid restrictions indoors for dancing but as the weather was great, we were able to dance with everyone outside. It was the best part of the day and our band, Cherry Crumble had everyone up on the dance floor playing all of the best songs.
Our guests still talk about how much they loved our photographer and videographer, the food at GG’s and the venue itself.
What are your top three pieces of advice to anyone else planning a wedding from abroad?
Once you find the venue you love, do some Instagram/social media hunting for suppliers who have previously posted/tagged at the venue for some ideas. There are so many it can get overwhelming and this is a good start.
Make sure you have a wedding coordinator (if not already provided by the venue) and make sure you’ve told them any key things you want to include on the day. You will be too busy on the day to remember any little things.
Lastly, kick your dress out as you walk down the aisle to avoid everyone’s worst nightmare of tripping and try not to overthink/stress about the walk. You’re going to have the best day!
