Myself and my father founded Independent Humanist Ceremonies (IHC) and have been providing Humanist Services across Scotland since 2009. Initially conducting funerals, I then was granted a license to conduct legal weddings a year later. Our aim was to be there for people at life’s most important events, to deliver a personal, professional and thoughtful ceremony in the way people want, promoting the empathetic and inclusive principles of Humanism.
Since then, we have seen progress in recognising same sex relationships in marriage and civil partnerships and our organisation has expanded. I now manage the administration for over 30 Celebrants across Scotland. Having this team ensures that we can cover each other when ceremonies are rescheduled or in times of sickness. This meant that no couples were let down during the pandemic. I have personally conducted well over 1000 weddings and I am privileged to be part of very talented team of Celebrants at IHC.
On a personal note, I first became a Celebrant and was attracted to Humanism after getting a wee bit lost in life. Drawn to its message of inclusivity, equal treatment of everyone regardless of religion, belief, gender or sexuality, respect for others, empathy and compassion to make the world a better place.
