Their story…
Ross and Wiljan were legally married in Belgium but chose to celebrate their wedding in Scotland surrounded by their global community of friends and family.
What made you choose Scotland for your big wedding?
I (Ross) wanted to come home to be married and with our guests living all over the world, it was as easy to invite everyone to Scotland as anywhere else.
How did you find planning your wedding from a distance? Did you have any help?
We did it all ourselves! We even booked House for an Art Lover sight unseen — we were a little nervous about that because we couldn’t judge how much space we’d have just from the photos. But it went very smoothly, from virtual consultations to the actual day itself.
We decided early on that we didn’t need to reinvent the wheel for our wedding. We went with the things and people we liked and everything felt really special and personal as a result.
All of our suppliers were great, very accommodating and full of wonderful advice. Our guests were suitably impressed.
Love it! What were your favourite parts of your big day?
We were most excited about having all of our friends together in one place for once. We also had high hopes for how the different elements would come together at the venue. We couldn’t have been happier, even the bits we were nervous about — like the first dance — exceeded expectations.
And after the wedding? A wee rest, I hope.
Not really! We visited family and helped our guests with advice of places to visit in Scotland before heading back to Brussels to prepare to move to New York with our two cats, Mylo and Luna. A big adventure for everyone!
